Being a Video Freelancer in Boston – Some simple things you should have before you get started
A High definition camera – Preferably a DSLR by most pro video guys out there. They are light, small, easy to travel with, and have the ability to change lenses. The kind of cameras used for the more professional projects like films, commercials, music videos, weddings. You get the idea. Try getting a Canon Rebel T2i to start.
A website – WordPress is great for building websites with little or no experience in web design. Its fun and easy to use, and has the potential to garner an audience if your an indie internet video producer yourself.
Business cards – You’ll need a calling card to network with, and send out your info to potential clients and collaborators. Its pretty cool to have one, and they come cheap at Vistaprint
Editing software – With Final Cut Pro X causing the demise of the better and user friendly video editing software, other programs like Premiere from Adobe, and Avid have really cool features and are pretty powerful. But they are a bit less friendly when it comes to usability.
These are literally the basis of what you would need to get yourself started on being an indie video producer, whether you wanted to freelance or become a YouTube mogul.
I hold a video service of my own right on this site, and if your a potential client you can contact me via the video services page.
And for the many readers to come, I’ll be releasing an eBook based on all my writings for people like me, who want to know how to make a better living in video. Stay tuned, and subscribe.
